Majestic Prince

It has been thirty-two years since the last Triple Crown winner. It had been a long time before Secretariat took the crown in 1973. One horse came close in the 60s, Majestic Prince. He won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. He also suffered a tendon injury and should not have raced the Belmont. He did against his jockey's advice and it cost him. He lost the Belmont and it was his last race. Subsequent attempts to bring him back to racing failed. He retired to stud. One of his descendents, Coastal, won the Belmont in 1979. He died of a heart attack in 1981.
