China's Shenyang F-6

China's answer to Russia's Mig-19 "Farmer" was the Shenyang F-6 a slick little plane that could do 960 mph flat out at altitude. Tested secretly by the U.S. during the Viet Nam conflict, the Shenyang F-6 was deemed more formidable than the faster Mig-21. Although slower, the Shenyang was more maneuverable, a distinct advantage at a time when most dogfights happened below the speed of sound. First flown December 17, 1958, the F-6 remains in service in several countries albeit mostly as a trainer.
